What’s the best way to learn a foreign language? Sticking to traditional methods and studying grammar? Absolutely not!
A language consists of two fundamental elements: Inputs and Outputs.
A language is learned through inputs. Listening and reading are parts of the input process. By watching TV shows and movies, listening to music, and reading books, we load thousands of different word and sentence combinations into our brains. Over time, these inputs settle into our memory. During this process, we begin to understand written texts and spoken language in the foreign language.
Output refers to speaking and writing skills. We reinforce the information acquired during the input stage by trying to speak or write. Therefore, outputs do not teach you the language; they simply help you speak and write more fluently and smoothly.
Inputs are important. The only way to acquire a language is through input. How would you say "Me gusta el café" (Spanish) in English?
Answer: "I like coffee"
However, constantly saying this can make the person feel like they are talking to a robot. What about "I'm into coffee" or "I can’t get enough of coffee"? There are many different ways to express this. The only way to learn these expressions is through listening or reading. After a while, these structures will stick in your mind unconsciously. We call this unconscious learning, or language acquisition.
Studies suggest that for adults learning a second language, reading is the most effective method. According to research, a grammar-focused approach takes one year to reach a certain level, while listening can achieve the same level in six months, and reading can do so in three months. This is why reading books in a foreign language will be the quickest solution for you. By reading books in a foreign language, you will learn new words, see how those words are used in sentences, recognize different sentence structures, and naturally (unconsciously) acquire this knowledge over time.

In our books, our translation standard is literal translation. In a regular translation process:

El nombre del libro es "Limón"

El título del libro es "Limón"

El libro es conocido como "Limón"
All of these sentences would be translated as "The name of the book is Lemon" in a normal translation. However, with literal translation, the sentences would be:

The name of the book is "Limon"

The book title is "Lemon"

The book is known as "Lemon"
Of course, this does not apply to proverbs and idioms.
Our text color-coding strategy is also designed in a way that maximizes the reader's language acquisition. In our books, some sentences are broken down word by word and color-coded, like this:
The cobbler fixed boots and shooes all day.
While some sentences are broken down into phrases, like this:
The cobbler fixed boots and shooes all day.
And some sentences are broken down into small clauses, like this:
The cobbler fixed boots and shooes all day because he needed money.
The aim of applying this different strategy is to ensure that the reader learns to handle complex sentence structures indirectly, by practicing them before encountering long sentences with complex language structures. Instead of word-for-word translation, we aim for deeper understanding of the text through phrase-by-phrase and clause-by-clause translation. This will help the language be acquired in a more natural and meaningful way.
